Puberty blockers for children with gender dysphoria
NHS England will no longer offer puberty blockers to children with gender dysphoria, following a public consultation process in addition to a review of current evidence conducted by NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence). The findings suggested a lack of evidence regarding safety and efficacy of puberty blockers. This change forms part of a wider reorganisation of Gender Identity Services with the closure of the current sole service provider and the opening of two new centres in London and Liverpool, with the aim to create a total of seven or eight centres in the longer term.
