The Medicines Information Centre (MIC) situated within the Division of Clinical Pharmacology, Department of Medicine at the University of Cape Town is the largest and only clinically-based medicine information centre in South Africa. The toll-free National HIV & TB Healthcare Worker Hotline is part of the Medicines Information Centre.
Since 2008, the National HIV & TB Healthcare Worker Hotline has become a trusted source of evidence-based medicines and treatment information for healthcare professionals across South Africa. To date (Jul 2026), the service has assisted with more than 86,000 queries, reflecting its important role in supporting healthcare workers nationwide.
As a telephonic answering service, including WhatsApp queries, the hotline can reach healthcare professionals anywhere in South Africa, from busy urban hospitals to remote rural clinics. Whether you need guidance on treatment initiation, regimen changes, drug interactions, adverse effects, or complex patient management, our experienced team is only a phone call away (or email, or WhatsApp or Please Call Me).

The hotline operates from Mondays to Fridays 8.30am – 4.30pm.
