Antibiotic dosing guidelines in obesity

A working group of experts specialising in the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of antibiotics performed a systematic review of 128 qualifying studies in order to summarise what is known about intravenous dosing of antibiotics for hospitalised patients who are obese. The certainty of evidence in the included studies was low to very low.
Studies were heterogeneous, which precluded meta-analysis, with dose adjustment recommendations based mostly on expert opinion. As robust pharmacokinetic data are lacking, therapeutic drug monitoring can also be useful. See the abstract below. For further information, please contact us.
