The 5^th consensus guideline for management of PONV has been released by an international panel of experts. The guidelines are based on an algorithmic approach which involves a baseline risk assessment, prophylaxis with up to 4 drugs based on assessed risk, other mitigation strategies and rescue regimens as needed. Prophylaxis and treatment options include 5-HT3 antagonists (e.g. ondansetron), NK-1 antagonists (e.g. aprepitant), dexamethasone, anticholinergics and antihistamines.
