Nasal spray for anaphylaxis
Earlier this month, the FDA approved an adrenaline (epinephrine) nasal spray for the emergency management of severe allergic reactions in adults and children > 30kg. This is the first available alternative to injectable adrenaline.
Results in healthy adults showed that nasal administration produced comparable blood levels of adrenaline to injectable formulations. The product is administered as a single dose in one nostril. Let’s hope that this formulation will be registered in SA in the future!
