A study by Loftfield et al, published in JAMA Network Open, used data from three prospective cohort studies including approximately 390 000 participants. All participants reported baseline multivitamin use and ongoing multivitamin use.

Follow-up was conducted for up to 27 years and confounders were described. Participants had no history of cancer or other chronic diseases at baseline. The main outcome measure was mortality. Multivitamin use was not associated with lower all-cause mortality.

This study adds to the evidence that in generally healthy adults, regular multivitamin use does not increase longevity.
