Illegal stimulants in supplements

The FDA has been systematically attempting to clamp down on weight-loss and body-building products that contain potentially dangerous ingredients without reasonable assurance of safety.

Previously they warned five companies to stop selling dietary supplements containing the stimulant betamethylphenylethylamine (BMPEA), which is often hidden in supplements containing Acacia rigidula.

Now another company has been warned to remove its product containing another stimulant they call AMP, which is also known as 1,3-dimethylbutylamine or DMBA.

BMPEA and DMBA are similar to DMAA which has already been banned. Since the FDA banned ephedra in 2004 food supplement manufacturers have been attempting to replace it with other supposedly “natural” stimulants.
