First-ever treatment option for frostbite registered
The FDA has approved the registration of iloprost (Aurlumyn®) for the treatment of severe frostbite in order to minimize the risk of having a digit amputated. Iloprost is a vasodilator that was originally approved 20 years ago for treatment of pulmonary arterial hypotension. The approval was based on the results of an open-label RCT of 47 adults with severe frostbite.
