Hampton and colleagues published their interesting qualitative study in BMJ Open, investigating how ER doctors made decisions to prescribe antibiotics or not, for paediatric patients with respiratory symptoms.

The themes identified were authorities, pressures and risks; with an acknowledgement that these themes might supercede inherent knowledge.
